When I come to Movenpick it's always a pleasure because all of the staff from the restaurant team food and beverage , to the front desk and to the guys on the front drive handling your luggage and carting people to their rooms. Today just wanted to again compliment the Accor Group here on making all guests feel always welcome. From their smiles to their professional manners it's great. Again what a great place to come and relax or let your kids have a great stay and vacation. Great blend of children and adult activities with also 2 main pools , one for the kids and families and one for adults. A beautiful resort in Cam Rahn. Thank you Ms Uyen for always your welcomes and your smiles every morning at breakfast. Thank you sir Dat for your always helpful manners with all of the front luggage and carting me back and forth to my villa room. And thank you front desk team for graciousness and always helpful can do spirits. Cam On. Again thank you Mr Dang for all and another great stay at Movenpick.
I have stayed in many great 5* hotels around the world and the Movenpick Cam Ranh is not one of them. I booked a room directly with Movenpick for my family of 4. Two adults and two children (6 and 9), full board, with Kids club experience! Apparently Movenpick expect 4 guests to sleep in one double bed. Room looks tired, bit grubby and generally not maintained. Balcony door doesn’t look like its locked in years. Cupboard doors don’t shut properly without forcing them and the bathroom has definitely seen better days. Struggle to see from balcony as the glass is filthy. When we arrived, there was only evidence of accommodation for 2 people, with bedding for 2 people, 2 bath towels, and 1 hand towel. I thought this was a mistake, but no. When I called reception, I was told that yes, the room can “accommodate” 4 people, but you all have to sleep in 1 double bed! What!!! If you want bedding for the children it will cost extra!! Even though we booked for 4 people, and the site says 4 people in the room?? Finally, after expressing our frustration with reception, they agreed to send 1 extra pillow and duvet to the room for 2 people for a sofa bed, that is a worse sleeping experience than camping. How is this 5*? (We would have used the 2 extra pillows in the cupboard, except they don’t have pillowcases! Pointless) We booked full board, thinking that all inclusive is not really needed, as with children, we are not going to be drinking much alcohol. In many other 5* hotels, that usually means a juice and sometimes a glass of wine comes with the meal. No, here you get water, at a push. Even soft drinks are charged for. We paid for the kid’s club experience, which in the brochure says “We turn your room into a wonderland of magic”. Wow we thought, that will be great for the children. They even get “kids bedding, slippers, bathrobe”. No. There was no sign in the room that our children even existed. The only sign of slippers were 2 pairs of USED adult flipflops in the cupboard. Why would anyone want to ware other people’s old flipflops, ewe. Nothing else. This is all down to management. Staff have been polite and smiling and always trying to help. This feels like the hotel management are just trying to wring as much money out of the place as possible and are skimping on the customer experience. I’ve had better experience in 3* hotels. Disappointing really. I suspect this will be our first and last stay in a Movenpick Hotel, if this is the lasting impression management want to leave with their guests. But lets see what the rest of our stay brings.
We stayed in the hotel wing, and the ocean view from our room was absolutely stunning. The swimming pool, beach, and landscaping were all perfect. The staff were very friendly, and we appreciated that there were plenty of different areas for breakfast. (Although the food selection was the same everywhere, the main restaurant on the first floor of the hotel lobby was our favorite.) It was also very convenient to use the Mövenpick app to book facilities, request towels, and arrange housekeeping services.
Great exp of my short-day trip. Having good resting here after a long time working. Best place to release all the stress from work.
The infrastructure is modern, the rooms are large, the landscaping it kept really nice, the beach is kept clean, the food options are good. We liked a lot the gym (modern, well functioning, just nice), the tennis field and most important, the staff is really nice. So what is missing to make it a top-of the range experience? The breakfast is overcrowded, messy and poorly organized. You have to queue for about 20 minutes (unless you want to go up the first floor which is even more messy) and when you get inside you see that 1/3 of tables are empty, some not cleaned and with used dishes. Not sure if they don’t have enough staff, or if the buffet is not large enough or simply the process is not well streamlined). The are on the first floor does accommodate a couple of hundred people but there is only one coffee machine with huge queue.May be a detail. The pool would be really nice and may be a bit undersized for this size of a hotel. But the two real issues are, (a) iOS is dangerous, very slippery, every day saw a few people slip and full (running kinds and elderly be careful!) and (b) am not sure why they let people swim with their clothes on, lots of plastic floating around, foam for the kids, loud music…not a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The sunbeds are worn out (fabric) so that when you sit you hit the steel beam that keeps them stable (very uncomfortable). Lastly the WiFi should be everywhere, in reality in many places there is no coverage, and even if you locate a spot, the signal is not stable and dropouts are every few minutes. In sum, this resort would have everything needed to make it fully 5*****, but now, with this observations and comparing with other resorts in the same category across SEA, it would fall between 3 and 4.
